Nephilim Stories
Part 2: Bigfoot
Are Bigfoot nephilim?
There’s a lot of weird ideas floating around the interwebs.
In order to answer this question you need to first establish that Bigfoot exists. To quote Alex Jones “where are the bones?” That’s right, Alex Jones doesn’t even believe in Bigfeets.
And Jones is pretty much right, there’s essentially no legitimate physical evidence for Bigfoot, and what little there is (footprints essentially) can be faked. The prominent Christian astrophysicist Hugh Ross even admitted to being involved in some Bigfoot fakery back in the day. The most famous piece of Bigfoot evidence, the Patterson-Gimlin film, is probably fake. There are several lines of evidence suggesting this, the most damning being that these guys are still the only people who set out to film Bigfoot that actually “got her on camera” (yes the PG film is allegedly of a female). The idea that they just decided to capture footage of Bigfoot and then did, while thousands of other people (and thousands of trail cams) have not been able to strain credulity to put it mildly. To make matters worse there’s a guy who claims he was in the suit and another guy who claims to have made the suit, and it all just looks very fishy. The guys who made the film still swear it’s real, though they’ve admitted they could’ve been tricked. I can’t rebut all the other crackpot attempts to make this footage look legit (measuring foot shadows etc) but yes, it sure seems like there’s no real evidence for bigfoot.
But people still see Bigfoot, this also is pretty much undeniable. So what are they seeing? Some are probably misidentifications. Some are probably bears. Walk in the woods late at night and you’ll think you see all kinds of weird stuff. But there do seem to be cases where it's hard to dismiss that these people saw something very weird, either that or they’re lying. And we all know people lie all the time. But there are many accounts where it just doesn’t seem like they’re lying. And these accounts tend to be very strange. Whatever they’re seeing it seems to be non physical or at least the creatures in question aren’t governed by normal biology. These accounts are not exactly uniform, but there are some common elements, especially that they’re almost always weird.
And by weird I mean strange, as in high strangeness. As in like Bigfoot sightings tend to fall into the camp of fairies, ufos, and angel sightings. Bigfoot sightings are strange, and these stories usually get “weird washed” so that they seem more plausible to the scientific community. Which is ironic because the scientific community, in general, doesn’t really care.
There’s an excellent book that has documented this phenomena called Where the Footprints End. It’s an extensive two volume documentation, but if you don’t have time to read it you can listen to a couple podcasts that outline what is happening.
The skeptical podcast Monster Talk is where I initially encountered this. But you can also listen to the authors on their own podcast discuss the book’s contents.
So does Bigfoot exist? Probably, but it’s almost certainly not a “flesh and blood” creature. It’s some kind of strange spiritual thing. So does that make it a nephilim? If people really are seeing a spirit entity when they claim to see Bigfoot I suppose that could be nephilim adjacent, but the nephilim were giant humans descended from some kind of transgressive union.
So I think the answer to the original question is probably no, Bigfoot is not a Nephilim.
